Multiple automakers, big and small, are working on battery-electric vehicles, but startup company PENERRA will have something that sets its EV’s apart from the rest—in-wheel electric motors.
Mounting the motors inside the wheel hub frees up space and offers the potential to more precisely control how much torque is sent to a wheel. Torque can be added or subtracted by adjusting the current going to the motor, rather than using the clutch packs, differentials, or brake applications typically used to adjust torque split.
While in-wheel hub motors are widely used on e-bikes, previous attempts to develop in-wheel motors with sufficient torque and manageable energy consumption to propel larger transport have failed.
PENERRA solved these problems by using unique True Motor Technology motors that inherently address these obstacles with ease.
In fact, in defiance of the known limitations of currently used technology PENERRA motors can achieve the staggering speed of 1.80 km per volt and up to 260 Nm on 1 kW of power

PENERRA uses a motor at each wheel to create an all-wheel-drive system and generate a dramatic increase of Nm. PENERRA estimates a range of 100 to 500 miles depending on configuration.
PENERRA currently expects to have the first prototype sample before the end of 2022.
