Los Altos resident Ruth Patrick, founder of the nonprofit WomenSV, received the KPIX Channel 5 Jefferson Award for Public Service Jan. 16 at the Herbst Theatre in San Francisco. Over the past seven years, WomenSV has helped survivors of domestic violence whose partners abuse their power, wealth and status. She has served more than 1,300 survivors in Silicon Valley with a helpline, support groups, counseling and referrals to resources.
