As a partner in the Voices for Healthy Kids
Coalition, Gasol Foundation is proud to join our public health colleagues in
supporting California State Senator Nancy Skinner’s SB 348, Healthy Meals for
Kids legislation which would set guidelines for the amount of sugar and sodium
added to school meals in all California K-12 schools that participate in the
National School Lunch Program. School meals can represent more than half of the
calories many students will consume in a day, and SB 348 conforms California
public school meals’ nutrition standards to the American Academy of Pediatrics
recommendation that children consume no more than 25 grams of added sugar per
day and similar standards for sodium.
We will have regular updates about SB 348
in our monthly newsletter, but you can let us know if you would like updates as
the legislation makes its way through the legislative process and would like to
weigh in on the bill.
